Bypass Road Petition ROUGH DRAFT

Below is a draft of the petition I will be submitting to coucil. If you would like to sign it please contact me via email at manny@bacaforla.com

We the following citizens of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos file the following petition with the Los Alamos County Council.

We request that the West Jemez Bypass Road project be removed from the CIP (Capital Improvement Project) list and tabled. We are aware of the fact that this road was originally approved with Ordinance 529 which was to give the authority to council to enter into agreements to redevelop the Trinity Site as well as to construct the bypass road. However we feel that the Bypass road is un-necessary as there is adequate access to the Jemez and Valles Caldera as well as the Ski Hill via State Road 4 through Bandelier National Monument, West Road and the current East Jemez road checkpoints, and the cost of 15.4 million dollars is much too expensive of a project to move forward with.

We further feel that there may be agreements with LANL and the LACDC that weren’t fully disclosed to the public that may force the building of this road and would like full disclosure of all information prior to the process to approve the design of the road proceeds.

Finally and most importantly it was stated by NNSA representatives that in the event of a security closure of the Lab Checkpoints the Bypass road would also be closed. Therefore the main purpose of this road would be defeated if the security gates were closed due to a Lab Security Situation.

I would add Pajarito Ski Area:

...there is adequate access to the Jemez Mountain, the Pajarito Ski Area and the Valles Caldera via State Road 4....

This should be heard by the new Council. I think that will work out as I believe there is only one more scheduled meeting for the old council ... double check this so that it's not heard by the old.

Good Idea Greg.. I've checked the schedule and there is only one meeting with yet another petition to stop work on the JPJ Complex. I don't get this town.

I guess all we can do is stand back and let the folks who want to beat their heads against brick walls do so and instead try to move on to more productive endeavours.
